Air Quality Router uses location coordinates to estimate nearby air quality and route readiness. Coordinates may be sent to Air Quality Router’s Cloudflare-based service for air-quality snapshot requests. The service limits provider access to the app and may cache air-quality responses from OpenAQ and CAMS / Copernicus ADS.

Data used for app functionality

The app may use precise or approximate location to compare route options near a selected route center. Air-quality responses are based on nearby OpenAQ readings or CAMS / Copernicus ADS forecast fallback data when recent readings are unavailable.

The app stores settings on device and uses iCloud key-value storage for shared target AQI, availability, selected route context, saved places, and notification preferences across the Apple app family.

Guided walks, location, and Apple Health

Guided AQI-Aware Walk is optional and requires Plus, an eligible selected route, precise When In Use location, and permission to share and read Apple Health workout and workout-route records. Starter does not request Health permission.

During a guided walk, actual location fixes are processed on Apple Watch and passed to HealthKit to build the workout route. Air Quality Router does not create an app-managed workout history or app-managed iCloud workout record, transmit completed-route coordinates to Dot 1 Technologies VBA servers, the Cloudflare AQ Proxy, or air-quality providers, or include them in advertising or analytics. After a record is saved in Apple Health, Apple may store or synchronize it through iCloud according to Apple Account and Health settings. Apple Health controls storage, system synchronization, access, and deletion of the saved workout and route.

Planned course geometry is transferred only between the paired iPhone and Apple Watch for staging and guidance. The Watch stores that package in a protected, backup-excluded local file; minimal recovery state contains no coordinates. Neither item is sent through app-managed iCloud synchronization or to developer servers. When the route is replaced or expires, or the walk finishes or is discarded, the package is retired, the Watch file is deleted, and removal of any last paired-device transfer context is requested immediately or queued until the devices reconnect.

The Estimated Route AQI recap uses the AQI snapshot associated with the planned route at the start. It does not calculate exposure from the completed path.

Notifications and Calendar

Local notifications are scheduled on device from configured availability windows and route reminder preferences.

Calendar access is used for confirmed route event creation, scheduled-route display, and duplicate route-reminder avoidance. Calendar information remains on device and is not sent to the Cloudflare AQ Proxy, OpenAQ, CAMS / Copernicus ADS, or other external air-quality providers.

Diagnostics and support

Diagnostic logs remain local unless shared manually during support. Support requests may include information voluntarily provided in an email or support message.

Advertising and analytics

No advertising or third-party analytics are included in Air Quality Router.

App Privacy disclosure

Apple’s App Privacy information lists precise and approximate location as data used for app functionality. Health and Fitness data, including completed workout routes, remains in Apple Health and is not received by Dot 1 Technologies VBA. Information deliberately included in a support request is handled as described under Diagnostics and support.
